How to register for Multi-factor Authenticator using the Authenticator Browser extension
What you'll need
- Access to a web browser on your computer
- Internet connection (WiFi)
- Authenticator browser extension.
Downloading the Authenticator browser extension
For Google chrome / Microsoft edge
Step 1: On your computer, open your web browser
Step 2: Go to the web store https://chromewebstore.google.com
Step 3: In the search bar at the top left type "authenticator"
Step 4: Find the Authenticator extension that matches the screenshot below.

Step 5: Click to open the extension and then click "Add to chrome" or "Get" depending on which browser you're using.
Step 6: A pop-up will appear, click Add extension.
Step 7: You’ll see a small icon appear near the top-right of your browser, which means it’s installed.
Step 8: At the top-right of the browser, click the puzzle piece icon (Extensions), then click the pin next to Authenticator. The icon will stay visible on the toolbar.

Connecting your account
Step 1. On your computer, using the same web browser, go to https://myaccount.microsoft.com
Step 2. Sign in with your school or work email and password
Step 3. Click on "update info" in the security info box.

Step 4. Click on "+ Add sign-in method"
Step 5. A pop up menu appears, Click on "Microsoft Authenticator"
The University supports Microsoft Authenticator as the main sign-in method for MFA. Other options, like phone calls and text messages, are being phased out. For more information, see the article here

A pop up box appears requesting you install the Microsoft Authenticator app.
Step 6: Click on "I want to use a different authenticator app" and click "Next"

Step 7: Another box appears requesting you set up your account, Click "Next"
Step 8. A box will appear asking you to scan a QR code. Click the Authenticator extension at the top-right of your browser, then click the square icon as highlighted in the red circle in the image below.

Step 9: Your screen will turn grey, and a square box will appear. Move your cursor over the QR code inside the box to scan it.
Step 10 : A pop-up box would appear saying your account has been added. Click "ok" to continue
Step 11: Click "Next"
Step 12: Another box will appear asking for a code. Click the Authenticator extension at the top of your browser, find the six-digit code, and enter it in the box and Click "Next".

A notification would appear on your screen letting you know the Microsoft app was successfully registered.
