How to register for Multi-Factor Authenticator using the Microsoft Authenticator App
What you'll need
- Access to a web browser on your computer.
- A mobile phone that is connected to the internet via wifi or has a valid data plan
Your mobile phone needs to be running one of these versions:
- Android 8.0 or later
- iOS 15 or later
- Windows 10 Mobile 14393.0 or later
Connect your Account
Step 1: On your computer, Open a web browser and go to: https://myaccount.microsoft.com
Step 2: Sign in with your school or work email and password
Step 3: Click on "update info" in the security info box

Step 4: Click on "+ Add sign-in method"
Step 5: A pop up menu appears, Click on "Microsoft Authenticator"
The University supports Microsoft Authenticator as the main sign-in method for MFA. Other options, like phone calls and text messages, are being phased out. For more information, see the article here

A pop up box appears requesting you install the Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone.
For iPhone users
- Open the AppStore on your phone and type Microsoft Authenticator app on the search tab.
- Click on “Get” to download on your mobile phone.
For Android and Windows users
- Open the PlayStore on your phone and type Microsoft Authenticator app on the search tab.
- Click on “Install” to download on your mobile phone.
Step 6: Once the Microsoft authenticator app is installed on your phone click "Next" on your computer screen.

Step 7: A box will appear asking you to set up your account click "Next"
Step 8: A QR code will appear, Open the authenticator app on your phone and click on the "+" at the top right
Step 9: Choose "Work or School account" then tap "Scan QR code"
Step 10: Use your mobile phone to scan the QR code on your computer screen
Step 11: After scanning click "Next" on your computer.

Step12: In the Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile phone, enter the code you see on your computer.
Step 13: Click "Yes" on your mobile phone to finish signing in.
Step 14: Click"Next" on your computer

Step 15: The Microsoft Authenticator app is now linked with your account. Select "Next" on your computer to complete the setup.

A notification would appear on your screen letting you know the Microsoft app was successfully registered.
